Blue Flame has been keeping homes across Cornwall warm, safe and running smoothly since 1988. Today we’re a multi-service team of heating, electrical, plumbing and renewables engineers, trusted by more than 12,000 customers.

Blue Flame was founded in 1988 by Mark Bolitho and Paul Smith, two qualified heating engineers who started the business with little more than a van and a passion for providing a great service. Over the following 30+ years, Blue Flame grew from a small local heating company into one of Cornwall’s established heating, plumbing, electrical and renewable energy businesses.
As our company grew, so did our expertise, services, and customer base, expanding into commercial work, social housing, landlords, businesses, and renewable technologies. Technology and investment in our people have played a big part in that growth, alongside a continued focus on quality workmanship, customer service, training and apprenticeships.
In 2024, after over 35 years at the helm, the founders retired and Blue Flame became 100% employee owned. Two long-standing employees, who had themselves started their careers with the company, became the new directors and Blue Flame continues to operate across essential services to thousands of customers.
From two engineers and one van in 1988, to a 100% employee-owned company today, we’ve grown by investing in our people, embracing change, and staying true to our Cornish roots.
