Getting the most from your heating system
A well-maintained heating system is safer, cheaper to run and less likely to let you down in winter. Most manufacturers and warranty providers recommend an annual service, carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, to check for wear, leaks and efficiency issues before they become bigger problems.
If your system is over 10-15 years old, or you’re seeing signs like rising energy bills, cold spots on radiators or the boiler needing frequent resets, it’s worth getting an engineer’s opinion on repair versus replacement. In many cases a repair is the right call, but where a system is genuinely at the end of its life, a modern, more efficient replacement can pay for itself over time.
If anything feels wrong – unusual smells, noises or a pilot light that won’t stay lit – it’s always safest to get it looked at rather than wait.
